Formal artistic training completed in the early 1990’s degree from Newcastle Poly followed by a further two years specialising in painting and sculpture at Sunderland.
Then came the wilderness years with many adventures stretching from Preston to Peru, via South East Asia and latterly a Slater’s cottage in mid-Wales. Sue developed her artistic style experimenting with stained glass, print-making, acid-etching and textile design, but always returning to her painting.
In Peru, Sue spent time with the Cuzco Artists of the San Blas area, including Lo Angel, painter and contemporary of Andy Warhol, as well as learning skills, including taxidermy methods, from the artisans living on the floating reed villages of Lake Titicaca and Batik artists in Malaysia.
In 2010 Sue established ‘The Pop-Up Gallery’ a travelling gallery bringing affordable art, the Inaugural Dales Festival of Art, Dales Creative project, workshops, networking events and more to unusual venues around the Dales (LEADER and Arts Council funded).
Sue’s work is shaped by all of her past experiences. She uses a rich palette, painting in acrylic on canvas. Her work explores the Dales its barns, landscapes, the legacy of the Tour and heritage, with the odd chicken with attitude thrown in for good measure.
Just recently Sue has developed a new range ‘Owd Lasses- cheeky vignettes, showcasing the glamour pusses of yesteryear struggling through their dotage, making cock-eyed sense of modern Britain.
